3 local students admitted to Harvard
Harvard Admissions Committee has officially made its decisions and offers of admission have been mailed to Jennifer E. Leffew and Victoria Ashley Villar of Vero Beach Senior High School and Eric S. Willett of St. Edwards School.
In addition, two other area students, Morgan L. Wild of St. Edwards School and Natalie M. Wolf of Sebastian River High School, were placed on the wait list.
All of the students who applied to Harvard are interviewed by local alumni who provide an interview report to the Admissions Committee. The alumni who are on the Schools and Scholarships Committee are Sam Zimmerman, Casey Walker, Ron Rennick, Gil McManus, Ginny-Len Hazel, Jim Stoeckel and Michael O’Haire.
Of the 30,489 applications, only 2,100 students worldwide were admitted, which represents 6.9 percent who were offered admission to the Class of 2014 at HarvardUniversity.
“This is by far the highest rate of acceptances that we have ever had in Indian River County” said Ron Rennick, the local Harvard Club of Vero Beach president. “In the past 20 years we have had a student admitted every few years, but we have never before had such outstanding results. We are fortunate in this community to have an excellent school system, committed teachers, supportive parents, and outstanding students to make this result possible.”
