Subject: Lucken named Presidential Scholar
Roseville Area High School senior Emma Lucken has been recognized as a 2010 Presidential Scholar by the Commission on Presidential Scholars of the United States Department of Education. She is one of only three Minnesotans to receive this honor, awarded in 2010 to only 135 students nationwide.
The United States Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964 to recognize and honor some of our nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors. The majority of the scholars are selected on the basis of broad academic achievement, with approximately twenty additional students selected on the basis of their academic and artistic scholarship in the visual arts, the performing arts, or creative writing. Scholars will be invited to Washington, D.C. for several days in June to receive the Presidential Scholars medallion at a recognition ceremony and to participate in events and activities with their elected representatives, educators, and other leading individuals in public life.
Lucken, the daughter of Michael Koob and Sarah Lucken of Roseville, has a 4.0 grade point average at Roseville Area High School and is ranked first (with three other students) in her class of over 500.
During her high school career, she has participated in a wide-range of activities and athletics, scored a perfect 800 in her SAT test and recently was named Roseville's Athena Award winner for athletic and academic excellence.
She will attend Harvard University.
