A great season of football for Penn in 2009 has resulted in a great recruiting class for the 2010 season for the Quakers.
Penn went 8-2 overall and 7-0 in the Ivy League last season. It won its first Ivy League football crown last season since 2003.
The Class of 2014, which was announced Monday, includes 25 members. Twelve of the incoming freshmen will join the team's offense while thirteen will join the defense. On offense, the Quakers have added five offensive linemen, one running back, one tight end, three wide receivers, and two quarterbacks. On defense, Penn has added five defensive backs, four defensive linemen, and four linebackers.
"Our coaching staff did another tremendous job with this year's incoming freshmen class," Penn coach Al Bagnoli said Monday from the Penn Athletics' website. "Our goal is always to have a well-rounded group, and this is a very diverse and talented class with a lot of potential. We're confident that each of them will be a positive addition to our program and our university."
This year's class includes seven all-state honorees, four state champions, a national champion, a Wendy's High School Heisman nominee, and a valedictorian.
Under coach Bagnoli, 15 of the previous 17 recruiting classes have left Penn with at least one Ivy League championship ring.
Penn returns 41 lettermen and 16 starters from last season's team.
Penn begins practice for this season in late August and plays its first game of 2010 against Lafayette on Sept. 18 at Penn.
