I have a friend doing her PHD in hydrogeology at CalTech and works closely with NASA and does stuff with rocks on other planets and planetary bodies. Maybe that might spark your interest...

I'll be working as an environmental consultant, most likely. WVU's Geology program isn't all that great, from what I know, and you pretty much need to get a masters to get a decent job.

Top jobs in Geology include: working for an oil company, working for the gov't (mostly doing field work for PhDs), working as a environmental consultant, or working for a private firm doing specific stuff (hydrology - urban development stuff).

Be prepared for a lot of science/math. Geology is treated as a physical science at most schools and require a good understanding of Chem, Physics, and Calc. Calc only if you go into higher level geo stuff, like GeoMechanics, GeoPhysics, and Hydrology.

She almost got booted from Smith for plagarism (which she adamantly denied...and I think was ultimately found innocent of). She got a job for some internet company and stopped posting.

How good are you using GIS? I was out in Colorado a while back and noticed there was quite a bit of demand for people with GIS experience.

Also, Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service probably need geologists.

yeah, GIS is really big, but there still aren't as many jobs in it as people think.

hydreology isn't bad either, but they really come from more of an engineering undergraduate background.

if you plan on just getting a bachelor's in it, you should killself, though.
