LAWRENCE -- The Lawrenceville School has chosen Leila Shayegan of Princeton as valedictorian for this year's graduating class.
Her outstanding work as a student, athlete and young woman committed to community service has earned her this honor, according to the school. Shayegan has been a high honors student throughout her four years at Lawrenceville.
Shayegan co-captained the Big Red girls' varsity squash team this year and her stellar play earned her a berth on the 2010 All-Mid-Atlantic Prep League girls' squash team. She also competed in varsity cross country, and freshman field hockey and lacrosse.
She gave almost 200 hours of community service to a number of local projects during her high school years, as well as for a national park in Texas. She is a member of the a capella groups at the school and sang in the school's annual fall musical. She is a member of the cross-culture club, the French club, the sustainability council and the Red Cross club at the school.
Shayegan plans to attend Harvard University in the fall.
