I'm a freshman at Dartmouth. I would say that you have an alright chance of getting in here, but this school gets a ton of applicants with your kind of numbers. Your recs will help for sure, and your ECs, while not particularly distinct, are still pretty good.
The fact that you are Asian is the main problem. I'm NOT trying to be racist or anything, but the Asian population at this school is outstanding, and the school is not nearly as welcoming Affirmative Action wise to Asians as they are to other minorities.

Is God on the admissions committee??
Unless you were using God as a metaphor for "blind chance"...
FWIW I think you've got a truly solid shot at most of those schools. The whole racist thing has been easing up a little (a *little*), it seems, so the picture is maybe not quite as dark as it was, say, 5-10 years ago.
Good luck, anyway. You'll get a great education at any of those schools.

Good luck.

Don't judge the OP's beliefs. He obviously has talent, ambition, and is already a great example of providence.
Don't even worry about it. You're a near-lock at half of those schools and I think you have a decent chance at Stanford and Yale...

u have a great shot at all of them, you are 100% in at emory, unless something was wrong in the essays/recs.
People tend to exaggerate the difficulty level, more than it really is, i've seen people get in with your stats at all of these schools. However, it's a crapshoot, especially more so at Yale/Stanford.

you'll get into a number of those schools. don't hold your breath on yale or stanford. you should have written your essay about your change of heart and how you discovered the motivation that turned you into a straight-A student. might want to keep this in mind next year for transfer options.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no specialist on these matters. All I'm saying is that I know a few kids with your kinds of numbers, and it's always, always an uphill battle. It's also fairly random; my numbers were not as good as yours, but I managed to show the admission officers in essays, etc... that I was more than just some digits on paper, and different than all the valedictorians applying. That's what it's all about, in my experience.

P.S.
Forget God, stick to where you're better acquainted.
God has nothing, nothing to do with you getting into college. You need ambition, drive, talent and a bit of luck. Take him out of the picture, and you may be better for it.

You guys giving him such optimistic predictions must have applied when admissions were a lot easier (applicant volume is skyrocketing). Asians with mediocre GPAs don't do well anymore.

ok, medicore? yeah i didn't make straight A's in all my classes 9th and 10th grade year, but i mean COME ON, the last B I've made was back in sophmore year. During the first semester of senior year (full load of AP/IB classes) my grades were 97, 98, 99, 99, and a 100....
in my defense...And its not my fault im an asian. why are the bars arbitrarily set higher for us?

also in my defense, my school runs gpa's very differently. a 3.666 unweighted GPA is = to an "A" average. A 3.333 is = to an "A-" average.
So in context, my average is actually somewhere between an A- and an A.
Btw, an A- at my school is 90-92. A solid "A" at my school = 93-97.
This is just FYI.

I can't believe it, but I actually agree with RWC on something. Essays are very important. From the sound of it, your's sounds a bit cliche, but if you pulled it off well, power to you.
I really don't know what's going to happen to you, kid, and neither does anyone here. We're all just speculating freely, probably all happy that we don't have to deal with the same stressful nonsense that you're going through. That's the gospel truth.

MyChances.net's calculator gives for your numbers:
Yale: 8.9
Stanford: 18.1
Penn: 20.7
Dartmouth: 23.1
Cornell: 49.6
Emory: 54.6
Duke: 60.4
Northwestern: 67.2
Surprisingly high, especially for Duke, plus most of those people aren't Texan of the Month!

Anyway, you'll get in somewhere nice. I attended one of those schools and applied to a few others . . . I had similar numbers as you.
To be honest, I'd say your biggest liability would be your grades, upward trend notwithstanding. Your UW GPA is a bit low so hope that your recs can overcome that.

Hey, it sounds like you are an AMAZING candidate. I would be shocked if you didn't get into some of those schools. I have the exact SAT composite score as you and so far I've gotten into Dartmouth and Cornell. (Not sure why they are sending stuff early, but whatever) And you seem to have done so much more than me. But you have to remember that all these colleges are ridiculously subjective. It just depends on the particular admissions committe. I'm sure no matter where you go, you'll be happy. So don't waste time stressing over it.

if you're in the top 3-4% of your senior class than your gpa is more than good enough.
