Star Football Player Devin Saxon Heads for Harvard

It is with great pleasure that the Moreau Catholic High School Athletic Department announces the acceptance of Devin Saxon to Harvard University for the fall of 2008. Devin was recruited for the football team and will be joining the Crimson as a back up quarterback. In the fall of 2005, Devin Transferred to Moreau Catholic High School. He immediately had an impact on the athletic department as he earned the position of starting quarterback- a spot he never relinquished. In 2005 he earned Honorable Mention for the HAAL. For the 2006 campaign, he was named to the Daily Review Cream of the Crop of Juniors! He was in the Top 25 Athletes for the Bay Area during his senior year and was named to first team all League in the BSAL. Devin was the Varsity Football Captain both his Junior and Senior years and led the team both on the field and doff by his spirit, intensity, and charisma. Both Sophomore and Junior year he was elected to the homecoming court, and would have repeated his Senior year but declined the nomination so he could concentrate on the football game. Moreau Catholic High School is extremely proud of the person that Devin is, as well as the athletic talent he possesses. Parents James and Shannon Saxon are very proud of this young man, who represents his school and his family with dignity and class. We look forward to following Devin's athletic and academic career at Harvard University for the next 4 years. Congratulations Devin!

Moreau Catholic High quarterback Devin Saxon has been notified by the Harvard football coaching staff that he has been admitted to the Ivy League school and will be on the football team in the fall, according to Moreau athletic director Christine Krisman.

Moreau will be holding a ceremony for Saxon on Friday so his father, who was just hired as the Miami Dolphins running back coach, can attend. His father needs to report to work on Monday.

Mariners star QB Saxon is Harvard-bound

Oakland Tribune, by Michael Bower

HAYWARD -- When Devin Saxon stepped on the football field for the Moreau Catholic High football team in 2005, he became an immediate leader, and he eventually became a fixture at the quarterback position for the program.

The 6-foot, 185-pound senior will try to repeat that scenario at Harvard University, where he was recruited to play football.

"I was really excited to find out about getting into Harvard," said Saxon, who plans to major in the area of business or science. "Before the whole recruiting process I never thought about going to Harvard. Then I found out they were interested, and they became my first choice."

Ivy League programs don't give athletic scholarships. Saxon earned the admittance through his outstanding work in the classroom.

He will be joining the defending Ivy League champions as a quarterback, and he expects to compete for a spot on the roster right away.

"The (coaches) said as soon as I get out there, I will be competing for a quarterback spot on the depth chart, so I am really looking forward to it," he said.

Saxon was named all-league, first-team in the Bay Shore Athletic League this season. Saxon threw for 903 yards and 11 touchdowns. He led the Mariners in rushing with 693 yards.

"He was the varsity football captain both his junior and senior years and led the team both on the field and off by his spirit, intensity and charisma," Moreau athletic director Christine Krisman wrote.

Alex Sarkisian (2 stars, '12), of Valapariso, Indiana, is another recruit this year.

Unfortunately for both, the pipeline ahead of them is full. Harvard is in an enviable position of having two All-Ivy quarterbacks returning next season along with some impressive underclassmen vying for playing time. Seniors Chris Pizzotti (6'5", Reading, MA) and Liam O'Hagan (6'3" Minnetonka, Minn.) have shared time over the last three seasons with Pizzotti leading the league in passing efficiency en route to first team all-league last season.

Cameron Ely (2 stars, 6'6" soph, Santa Barbara, CA) will probably take over after next year. http://www.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?sport=1&pr_key=58319

Or it might be Collier Winters (2 stars, Tulsa, Oklahoma), another soph.

Or Matt Simpson (soph, 2 stars, Arkansas)
