Yale Women's a cappella group will perform at Hawaii State Library

Whim 'n Rhythm, Yale University's world-renowned senior women's a cappella ensemble, will present "In Happy Song: Whim 'n Rhythm," a free concert on Friday, May 28 at 11 a.m. in the Hawaii State Library Lobby.

Whim 'n Rhythm, one of the nation's premier undergraduate female a cappella groups, has been performing throughout the world for the past three decades. The group was founded in 1981 by seven Yale women who combined their musical talent with a significant interest in promoting the equal role of women.

The current Whim 'n Rhythm ensemble is comprised of 14 members, and includes soprano Jakara Mato of Honolulu. Coincidentally, the ensemble will kick off its 2010 World Tour in Honolulu at the Hawaii State Library.

The one-hour concert will feature a selection of songs from upbeat jazz standards and classic show tunes to contemporary pop favorites and traditional ballads.

This concert at the Library is recommended for ages 5 and older.

Contact the Library as soon as possible if a sign language interpreter or other special accommodation is needed.
