I just moved into my university-owned townhouse for this summer and it's a TTT. There is literally no lighting. None. Not that it would really matter because in my double room, only 1 out of the 5 outlets works. There is no internet connection. If I want it I have to pay for it and it's not cheap. Hence I come to you from the library once again. Finally, my roommate is THE definition of a Jane Hoya and since I haven't had to room with one of those before, who knows how it'll work out (at least I was the first one there and claimed the bigger room and the bottom bunk). Gaahhhhhhh what had started out to be so promising is looking dark, very dark.

Hang in there!!
Perhaps you can complain to the university about the outlets not working and about the lack of lighting?

I am taking two classes this summer. A 'jane hoya' doesn't have a concrete definition per se but any G'town student can point one out to you. Tall, rich, evenly tanning-bed tinted, perfectly clipped and highlighted hair, manicured, pedicured, and wears a lot of Polo, Burberry, and J. Crew.
Sigh.

Which should be pretty fun, ultra-small classes and I like the prof.
I don't know where it sprang from, but 'jane and joe hoya' have been commonly used to describe that prevalent "type" of student here since at least 1972, as I learned from my aunt's yearbook.

We take orgo and inorganic as the same class (one semester, it was insanity, as you can imagine). Later on I took orgo II to further my chem background. I learned how to memorize the entire periodic table including element name, number, and atomic mass but still can't solve a pOH problem.
I don't want to take fewer classes, but I want to get my general requirements out of the way so I can dabble in some other things, possibly Econ or another Ethics course, for example.

I don't like georgetown much either, it's such a bitch to get beack into the heart of DC from there.

Jane Hoya:
I went to Georgetown....your definition of a "Jane Hoya" was perfect....I would love to hear your "Joe Hoya" definition.
BTW, I lived in a townhouse senior year....also no lighting and no internet (we were forced to provide our own of both...) the location was great though.

As much as I want to stay on campus though I'm jealous of friends in Burleith who had their landlord provide the dishes, silverware, TV, and cable internet.
Joe Hoya... I think we both know the first couple things that come to mind here. Flipped up collar on the (quite possibly pink) polo, khakis; and if not that, then a "Georgetown Lacrosse" or crew t-shirt and the inevitable beirut cup in one hand and Jane Hoya's ass in the other.

right on with the Joe Hoya description.....
from other threads, you seem to be "into" weed and such....too bad I didn't know you at Georgetown, I was the only one of my friends who was into "expanding my consciousness"....drinking every weekend was sooo boring, plus I like to go to a lot of Dead/Phish type shows---and they are usually enchanced by certain substances.
There would be days at Georgetown when I felt like the only person wearing a tie-dye within a 10 miles radius :)

I knew a lot of kids from 2003 and some from 2004, quite a few potheads in fact. Honestly, quite a low-key bunch and very much interspersed with the Joes and Janes out there.
There's no chance you worked for the Corp, did you?

Didn't work for the Corp. I was an '02 grad....
There was one guy I bought pot from pretty consistently (Class of '01).....but, I didn't find too many potheads...I am kind of shy though....

Yeah, I never saw any acid either.
As for coke...it was pretty big when I was there...many a party I went to had lines being blown all over....it is certainly on the DL but still pretty big---
I never went for coke (not really my thing)...but it was funny when I was at a party and everyone would be blowing lines and I would go to smoke a bowl and they would give ME a weird look :)

I would have met you at the record store or something, I'm almost positive I've been there at least a few times (don't know the name of the place but that sounds right).
As for the weather, I'll deal with the humidity and sun waaay better than the windy drizzle we've been accustomed to.

looks like you are going to have an interesting summer! i had a roommate like that once, although we had no specific names for them, but it actually turned out that she was the most insecure human being i have ever met and thus i was able to make everything go the way i wanted it to! after that though, i made sure to get single housing. it was slightly traumatic.
