I've been doing a lot of college research this summer and thought I'd see what you guys thought of my profile and where I could get in. I'd really like to go to one of the top schools and would appreciate a reach/match/safety analysis for what schools you think would be good for me. After the break I've included a short list of colleges I've been considering.

Colleges I'm considering: Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, Williams, Amherst, Columbia, Rice, U. of Chicago, Duke, Dartmouth, Brown, Georgetown, and Middlebury. (If you think any others should be on my list, make sure to let me know!)

Applicant data:

Academic:

SAT CR: 740

SAT Math: 800

SAT W: 740 (72,10)

SAT II Math IIC: 740

SAT II U.S. History: 790

SAT II Chemistry: 750

ACT Composite: 34

Class Rank: 30/492

Member, National Honor Society

Extracurricular:

Debate Team President 2007-2008

Texas All-State Choir Performer 2007

Eagle Scout

Led effort to change state league rule

President of Young Republicans 2005-2006

Teen Court Volunteer

What I want in a school:

-Intellectually stimulating students

-Strong undergraduate education with solid pre-law record

-Strong PolSci program and politically active (I lean conservative)

-Good a cappella singing groups (I've read most Ivies do)

all of those schools will meet or exceed your expectations in a number of ways. 18 year olds are highly adaptable - there are many schools you'd be happy at. apply to a number of places and see where you get in. then visit. fwiw, i'd either shoot for HYPS or a scholarship from a school ranked in the 10-35 range.

Dartmouth has a high number of eagle scouts---and the Outing Club could be something for you to join if you're still interested in the outdoors as an undergrad.

The school (administration/faculty) is of course left, but the student pop is more socially liberal/economically conservative. The College Republicans there is active during campaign season every 2 years with national primaries and state politics. The Review serves as a feeder into national conservative orgs.

The a cappella scene is obnoxious, but active.

Study hard/play hard at Dartmouth, get a solid LSAT and you won't have any trouble getting into a t-14 LS if not t-6. But between now and then you might decide you don't want to do law, but good grades will get you a job in almost any field.

I'm actually looking at Dartmouth for MBA. I love the outdoors so I don't care that it's in the middle of nowhere

I would have rather gone to a top east coast LAC than Harvard, Stanford or some other big-ass university with all-props, all graduate schools. LAC's don't have the lay prestige of the HYS's, but in NYC/BOS/DC they play just as well.

Isn't Claremont a bit selective to be considered a safety? I think he would almost certainly be accepted if they thought that he were really interested, but I wonder whether it's one of those places that rejects or waitlists applicants when they suspect that they want to go somewhere else.
