Coming Soon: "AMERICAN SUMMER"

A funny, colorful, and surprisingly smart comedy, American Summer tells the story of Alex Sperling, Harvard-bound valedictorian, who loses his summer internship and heads to Los Angeles to work for his charming and successful cousin Roger. Unfortunately, Roger isn't quite the accomplished businessman he's made himself out to be-- he actually dropped out of Harvard, and now works as a pool boy. A series of mishaps force Alex and Roger to squat in the stunning mansion of one of Roger's clients, where they join forces with Laura, a local escort, to start an escort business. The company grows like wildfire as Alex and Roger get caught in more and more hilarious situations, from shotgun-wielding celebrities to bar mitzvahs to sadistic lesbian businesswomen, finally culminating in one giant party... but when Alex’s parents and their Harvard-alumni friends show up, they have to turn the bash into a Harvard event in order to save both the business and Alex's future.

Typical, classic summer fare. Playboy's current "Miss May" has a cameo role.

Serious question: are you offended when Harvard is used as the setting for an awful movie? I would be.

Harvard can take it.

Did you see "Ice Princess" - recent Disney movie about the girl admitted to Harvard who dropped out to be a figure skater? Excerpt from NY Post review:

"Casey Carlyle (Michelle Trachtenberg) is a high school genius who seems to be a shoo-in for Harvard - until she decides to do a project on the physics of figure skating.

As the dorky Casey learns to lutz, her clothes get tighter and her makeup heavier. Meanwhile, her hair inflates from a drab, flat ponytail into a bounty of such shampoo-commercial luxuriousness that it could acquire its own agent.

[Joan Cusack] comes across as well-meaning but clueless, while a rival mother figure, Gen's skating-coach mom, Tina (Kim Cattrall of "Sex and the City," in a depressingly bland role) convinces Casey that sports are all that matter. In other parenting news, kids should skip meals and head straight for the Oreos."
