Dad went to Yale Ugrad, Emory Med School and is a doctor and now owns his own business

Mom owns a restaurant in D.C. She was top 1% of her class back in school.

We just bought a 3.5 million dollar mansion on River Road, Maryland, an upgrade from our old 1.2 million house in Fairfax County, VA.

I am attending UChicago and my older brother went to Carnegie Mellon's Bschool and is now on Wall Street. He used his money and pooled with my dad to buy me a BMW on my birthday. He also applied and was accepted to Upenn Wharton's MBA program. My younger sister is attending Columbia next year and is studying pre-med.

PS: My uncle went to Harvard and Oxford for PHD. We don't see him much but he is also prestigious.

If you are as prestigious as me, post your stats and we may be friends. No inferiors please.

Why should we assume the existence of a superfluous and wholly unnecessary verb?

Would you otherwise be mislead by the thought that the speaker was referring to entities the speaker believed to not exist?

Give me a fucking break, retard.

you assume it because that's just how the clause is setup, genius. you need a subject and a verb for an adverbial clause (which this is). even if you were dumb and wrote "me" instead of "I", the verb would still be assumed (as my family and me *are*). I don't know what your first language is but in English we don't have to say every word explicitly

You don't have to know this to get into Harvard today, either. There's a reason the language changes and simplifies. Eventually this specific distinction will completely disappear and grammar Nazis will have to cling to something else. (Thank God.)

Dad: From Yale to Emory; that's quite a drop there. What about Harvard & JHU med? If he wanted to stick to the South, there is always Doook.

Mom: Where was she in the top 1%? High school or college? Also, what kind of restuarant?

You: Why U of C and no Ivy, much less HYP? You didn't even get into Yale, where you had the legacy thing going for you.

Bro: CMU Bschool is nothing special, there are about 15 bschools, 30 law schools, and 100 medical schools most people would consider more prestigous. The fact that he was accepted to Wharton doesn't mean anything, he doesn't have a degree from there. Exactly what does he do on Wall St? He can't be that much of a baller if he needed to pool money with your dad to buy you a BMW.

Sis: Being a Columbia frosh means nothing. Like you, she couldn't get into Yale, despite being a legacy.

Uncle: Seems to be the most prestigious one in your family.

All in all, your fam is clearly accomplished, but not uber-prestigious by any means. HTH.

Never said it did. I said AFTER Wharton. Also, Tepper MBA is shit compared to Tepper Ugrad.

For Ugrad the Tier goes:

1. Wharton

2.3.4.5.6. Sloan/Haas/Tepper/Ross/Stern

However, the brother probably attended Tepper before its rise, thus making him less prestigious (just like attending Harvard during NYCFan's time makes him less prestigious).

Subject: The issue was MBA not undergrad.

For the MBA there are a good 10-15 bschools that are clearly better than CMU. For undergrad, I'd say Sloan, Stern and Ross are better as well, esp for finance related things on the East Coast.

Regarding NYCfan and Harvard, in the days he attended, the gap between HYP and the rest of the say 50 schools was much much greater than it is today (they were kind of like Oxbridge in the UK).

I don't think the bro is going to attend Wharton in the future. The OP also made it sound like his bro was a total baller on Wall St. There is no way somebody of this sort is applying to bschool, much less going.

Anyhow, enough pondering on this clown.

Ah okay, interesting take on it. From what I gathered it seems like the bro went to Tepper Ugrad and now is a "baller on Wall St" as you say, and was accepted to Wharton recently but for Grad. Either way, the most unprestigious part is Uchicago and Emory IMO. Unless he meant Tepper for Grad (MBA), then that would be the most unprestigious part.

^ Quite untrue. Family has lived in Fairfax all their lives. Everyone knows Fairfax is only home to the single digit million homes as there are too many people and many of these millionaire homes don't even have yards! The most exclusive spots are the spaces in Langley/Mclean/Maryland (RR)

Middelburg is where the money is. There are a couple of exceptions along the GW Parkway and Great Falls. BTW, there are not many yards in the Upper East side either; yards are hardly a reflection of real estate value; but a good indicator of striver poseurs.

I didn't apply to Yale. I did EA to Uchicago for econ, which I believe was the right choice.

Did I not mention my Dad received a scholarship for Emory? At the time, we weren't as rich as we were then so my dad chose Emory instead for the scholarship and easier financing.

My sister did not apply there either as she had many friends going to Barnard and decided to app to Columbia. She is the type to care more about friends and such than being a prestige whore.

Finally, by pooled I meant as in they split the cost. It does not mean they can't afford a car on their own as they both have multiple luxury vehicles at their disposal. My brother does not tell me how much he makes but it is more than enough to pay for even his S550 which he got last month.

PS: You're*

You claim she isn't a prestige whore (hence Columbia instead of Yale) and wanted to be with her friends, yet she applied to Columbia instead of Barnard where her friends were, presumably for the prestige, since the education for the most part would be the same.

She's not a prestige "whore" but she's also not an idiot. Why would she go to Barnard when she can go to Columbia and hang out with her friends? Basically having her cake and eating it too. Not to mention my parents would probably not allow her to choose Barnard as it doesn't make much sense since she can see her friends just as well from Columbia as its across the street.

Finally, she also has guy friends going to Columbia so its not like she knows no one at the main school.

Ahh, so what you meant to say is your family has new money, i.e. first generation money. And not even a lot of new money, just more than some poor chap working in a factory. Now, if your family had old money, your dad wouldn't have needed the charity handout scholarship to attend med school.

Okay, so members of your family attended some good schools here and there, just upgraded to a McMansion and can afford a luxury car or two, (well three if everyone chips in and buys it). I'm sorry but you and your family are not prestigious. You are, however, nouveau riche. While this may give you some bragging rights over the working class poor, you are not now, nor ever will be prestigious. You're money is too new. And now matter how hard you try, your money will never be old. You and your family still have to work for a living and have not amassed enough real weath to quit your jobs and live off the interest.

Now, if you really were prestigious, you would have told us where your family summers, where your winter home is located and what clubs to which your old man belongs.

Also, not to burst your prestige bubble but having a daddy who is in professional services and a mama who slings hash all day will never cut it with the upper crust. Tell your story to the folks on the Vineyard or Sag Harbor and you'll be laughed right off the island.

For summering, most of the old money has been priced out of places like Sag Harbor (less so in the Vineyard). These places are filled with Manhattan bankers, lawyers, and hedge fund managers....not guys with III and IV in their names, though of course, the 2 groups are not mutually exclusive. Look no further than Greenwich, CT to see old money doesn't hold much sway anymore.

Some of NY's private clubs, best co-ops, and boards of places like the MET remain more old school knickerbocker, but even still, much less so than before.

I agree with the rest of your analysis on [un]"eliteguy".
