You put Wisc/UMich over Tufts...are you kidding me? It's called "Tufts Symdrome" for a reason--the school has a pretty hefty applicant overlap with the Ivies, and its students clearly have better stats than those of UMich and Wisc. USC also has an objectively higher quality undergrad than UCLA.
HTH.

Yeah because my ENTIRE COLLEGE LIFE should be surrounded with kids who DONT want to be at the school and SAT scores determine EVERYTHING about undergrad.
If there's one thing I've learned as a graduating senior it's that hanging around high-strung faggots with the best years of your life makes no sense.
They are state schools (Mich/Wisc) and have different obligations and economics when it comes to admissions. But guess what? They could almost fill an ENTIRE class of USC/Tufts in their incoming students for 09. So the bottom 25% suck? OK, fine, beat them in grades and for LORs. Ignore them? Do the honors program? Get the best research positions at two of the world's top research institutions. And in my case, because my stats were sub-ivy but still Tufts/USC worthy/top 75% of my school, I was hella qualified for scholarships from places like the alumni association, my fraternity, honors program, etc. $15,000 dollars a year later, I'm paying what is essentially in-state tuition.
I'm going to a joint law (t20, if not t14)/graduate school program with a solid GPA from Wisco. I also had four amazing years filled with fraternity craziness, going out 3 nights a week, 8 person gov't seminars, amazing sports, beautiful women, 1-on-1 research exp. with the people writing our textbooks, and oh yeah most importantly: zero fucking debt.
Tufts and USC are not bad schools. In fact, great places. But a 3.5 GPA from Michigan, Wisco, USC, Tufts aren't going to do any different all things being equal (e.g. not being someone trying for i-banking which yeah, the northeastern private thing might work better for Tufts) -- it will come down to the person and their ability to take initiative, be it the GRE, LSAT, or networking to find a job. And oh yeah, at places like Wisco/Michigan, with something like 350-400K living alumni, they sure do come in handy.

You know what UCLA and USC students have in common? They both got into USC.
