My kids get some weird ads on Youtube when we watch together, but by and large they have no idea what movies are coming out. They pick new TV shows just by clicking on them randomly. They've never asked for a sugary cereal that i haven't bought for them first. Only very rarely do they ask to go to McDonald's or something for some new happy meal - and that's through word of mouth at school.
It's a diffrent world from when we grew up telling our parents we had to buy more Kool Aid to get enough points to buy the ninja turtles themed walkman.

there's no unified shared culture anymore. everyone just does their own shit. it wouldn't matter if they knew what new movie was coming out anyways.
this is bad if you would have been cool and popular and integrated in society.
this is good if you are an aspire incel shut in loser.
