The course is playing only 400 yards longer than it did in 1981 and that year the winning score was -7. They needed to add at least 1000 yards to make up for changes in technology.

CR. Played this course a few times and its beauty is that it was designed to require tough iron shots regardless of how far you can drive it. Granted most of these guys can 3 wood instead of drive at many holes but even so they will still find themselves in the rough enough and then have an even tougher approach.

Wet enough for a soft landing on fairways but not wet enough to create mud balls. And it will only get more dry, so I would expect to see more rolling into the rough.

What do you think is making it so difficult? Just the tough pin positions or what?

I actually haven't had a chance to watch much, but from what the pros were saying last night, it seems like they put the pins in the back which makes them hard to get to in soft conditions....and then if you miss the fairways and greens, the penalty is about .75 of a shot because there is no graduated rough. Which is tough.

Thus far, this has been one of the most interesting tourneys I've ever watched. Course is really tricky and everyone is being forced into tough decisions and fucking up.
