looking to get a bit more in shape. I keep on hearing about cross fit. I've looked at our local center and it looks tough and intense. Goal is to loose a couple of extra lbs and live a bit healthier. Other option is to do small group sessions w a personal trainer. Looking for opinions from anyone experienced with crossfit. Need to decide which one will work the best.

Crossfit will work if you have the time, money, and, most importantly, the discipline to eat right.

I do not crossfit, but people who work out with me (purely calisthenics) who do crossfit say a lot of what I do is similar to their WODs except a bit more focused on the movement and less on the numbers. But I can say from my own experience and the results I share with others is that without dialing in the diet, you become less efficient at the gains you want. Once I dialed in the diet, my physical progress both in terms of performance and aesthetics went through the roof. Good luck OP and above pumo is correct.

just lift four days a week, then do like hard 2.5 mile run twice a week. eat better. crossfit is broscience bullshit and usually leads to injuries and diminishing returns. it also makes you sound like an utter faggot when you start crowing about how killer your WOTD was. it's a gimmick.

I look at people I know who have joined and they seriously get ripped fast. Not that I have any desire to get super ripped, but the results seem pretty undeniable.

I incorporate some crossfit into my normal routines but don't do it exclusively.

I think it's helped to shed some weight.

But it's too expensive and I'm not real big on working out in groups. Also, I'm not sure how overblown the injury factor is, but I imagine it's easier to injure yourself.

for people that don't have the drive to workout regularly by themselves, the group aspect can help them keep a regular workout schedule.

but there's nothing really magic about crossfit. eat reasonably well and do compound lifts on your own and you'll look good.

it really is the key to looking good. and you don't have to eat squeaky clean. just make an effort to keep the weekdays reasonably healthy so that you can drink and eat like shit on the weekends

though even if you eat like shit, lifting heavy will help mitigate the effects and make you look more sturdy/stocky rather than looking like a fat blob.

this is exactly what i do.

i eat healthy 6 days a week (fruits/veggies/chicken/fish and no processed foods) and splurge on a weekend day. I work out (lifting hard) 4-5 times a week.

I feel great

It's possible (and cheaper) to lift at a regular gym, do sprints, and eat healthy. But crossfit's group environment may help you with motivation. Here's the most important part: make sure the coaches know what they are doing and provide regular instruction as to form. My gym is great, but apparently there are some crossfit gyms with incompetent coaches. You start doing overhead presses and snatches with improper form and you will be on the sidelines with a shoulder injury for months.

Let's put it this way, the most serious Crossfitters also incorporate traditional lifting into their workout regimen. Crossfit is great for building endurance but it's not necessarily going to make you a whole lot stronger. It's also very dangerous if you don't know what the fuck you're doing, since Olympic lifts require a lot of technique.

i think it's great for people who otherwise wouldn't exercise or wouldn't exercise with much intensity. i make fun of it a lot but i still recommend it to people frequently. it also seems like a good way to meet healthy chicks.
