Want to get the MPRE out of the way this summer. Haven't taken the Ethics class to prepare you for it in law school.

Taking vacation with some college friends until 3 days before the MPRE. I will study my ass off all 3 days if necessary (but I will be hungover one of those days). What study materials should I get? Is Kaplan's free online course any good?

Just take the MPRE, if you fail, take it when you get it for free with your bar cource. It is easy as shit. No one actually studies for this.

Could I potentially take it and pass without EVER looking at study materials?

Also, I really want to just get it over with because my bar studying is going to be jam packed as it is. Planning on doing an SA with another firm right before I start clerking.

WTF is this SA shit before you start clerking? How can a fed clerk do this.

Cleared it with judge. Don't start until August/September/October (don't want out). Interviewed with firm for 2L summer, but went with another. Stayed in contact with hiring partner and now will be a SA next summer.

Well if you aren't taking the bar, there is no reason to take the MPRE.

the MPRE should take maybe 4 hours max. I just walked in after flipping through the book and I scored a 121.

Not really doing much. I am going to take a legal research class and some writing classes my 3L year, but that is about it.

I know it is easy, but I want to put in the BARE MINIMUM of effort because I am lazy.

What sorta questions did the judge ask you at interview that were challenging or perhaps out of the blue? Also, did you have to interview with the outgoing clerks?

Just honestly answer the questions using your intuition of what is fair. And just do the practice exams at the end of the barbri MPRE booklet.

Nothing real challenging. Asked me about my writing sample and some other substantive stuff, but it was pretty clear he wasn't trying to trip me up or anything.

We talked about sports a lot--nothing else really out of the blue.

Con law was my worst grade in law school. I think all the "theories" of interpretation are bullshit that judges throw around to get the result they want.

Notwithstanding above, I think originalism is not a bad theory--better than some "evolving" bullshit. However, I do think some judges (Thomas) can stretch it a little bit far.

it's sort of fun to have a standardized test score to throw around with friends that has no ego/pride attached to it. For this reason alone, you should go ape on this and go 140+
