Dear (mobiusnu),
Our course is completely different than the PowerScore course. PowerScore costs about $150.00 less; however, it is important that you know the differences between the companies. TestMasters was founded 12 years ago by Robin Singh. Robin Singh has achieved a world record 11 perfect scores on the actual LSAT. In fact, the owner of PowerScore, Dave Killoran, was a former partner and student of Robin Singh. Robin Singh tutored Dave Killoran for six months before Dave took the LSAT. On the actual LSAT he scored a 172. Though this is a good score, Robin believed that Dave did not understand the test to the point where he could adequately teach it to students. As a result, in 1997, he dissolved his relationship with Dave. Since then, Dave has started his own company and the reason his website looks and feels like ours is because he has attempted to copy the TestMasters model in hopes of achieving the same kind of success that our company has experienced. Though you may like his website and it may seem like a large company, it is actually a small company run by a husband and wife and a few employees from South Carolina.
The following are the substantive differences between the courses:
More Hours Than PowerScore
1) We offer 80 hours of live instruction, 16 hours of diagnostic testing and 7.5 hours of live question and answer session. Our total course time comes to 103.50. The total course time for PowerScore is 80 hours (the reason the statistics look the same here is because they state that they have 80 hours of course time. In doing so, they are calculating their diagnostic time whereas, we do not include our question and answer sessions and our diagnostic time when calculating the total hours).
Finer Instructors
2) Our instructors are superior to PowerScore instructors for the following reasons:
a) Our company has been in business for twice as long as PowerScore, so over the past 12 years we have assembled the best faculty.
b) To attract the finest instructors we pay a much higher salary than PowerSore pays their instructors
c) Most importantly, we have an extremely rigorous national training program in which all TestMasters instructors are flown to Los Angeles where they are trained personally by Robin Singh and other veteran TestMasters instructors. During their five days in Los Angeles, our instructors are indoctrinated into the TestMasters course methodology and given opportunities to teach in front of mock classes. The only candidates who become TestMasters instructors are those who demonstrate both a mastery of the TestMasters techniques and the ability to teach the techniques to others. PowerScore does not have the resources that TestMasters does. Thus, it is important that you know that they hire their instructors without meeting them over the telephone and then train them by sending a video to the instructor and asking the instructor to watch the video. The video has Dave teaching LSAT questions. Obviously, this method is completely ineffective because you can never know for certain if the instructor fully understands the concepts and techniques and it is unwise to hire an instructor without first assessing their ability to teach in front of a class. We know for certain that PowerScore employs instructors that they have never met and have only talked to on the telephone. Obviously, you cannot judge teaching ability by speaking to person over the phone or email.
More Books
3) We will provide you with more books than PowerScore.
4) Our books are all created and written by Robin Singh. Robin Singh holds the world record for achieving perfect LSAT scores and he continues to take the test to make sure that the concepts he creates actually work under timed conditions. I cannot imagine why a student would take a course from Mr. Singh’s student as opposed to Mr. Singh himself.
We provide students with these kind of details because we understand that students may be confused and we also believe that before handing over $1,000 to any company, they should have all of the facts, so that they can make an informed decision.

TestMasters offers a lot more than PowerScore and I will describe the difference for you:
1) The TestMasters LSAT Course offers 80 hours of instruction, 7.5 hours of question and answer sessions and 16 hours of testing. The PowerScore class offers 64 hours of instruction and 16 hours of testing. Thus, you get 23.5 more hours with TestMasters than with PowerScore.
2) The PowerScore course is a spin-off of TestMasters. In fact, the guy who started PowerScore used to be at TestMasters. He was Robin Singh’s student (Robin Singh is the author of the TestMasters course). Robin Singh did not feel that Dave Killoran (the owner of PowerScore understood the materials enough so that he could effectively teach it, thus he parted ways with Killoran. Once they parted ways, Dave Killoran started a competing company called PowerScore. In doing so he lowered many of the services that TestMasters has always offered to its students.
3) The starting pay for a TestMasters instructor in Chicago is $50.00 per hour while the starting pay for PowerScore instructors in $25.00. For this reason, we feel we get to choose from the very limited pool of those who score in the 99th percentile.
4) TestMasters flies all potential instructors to Los Angeles to be trained by Robin Singh and other veteran TestMasters instructors for an intensive five days. Each instructor is trained and then must teach mock classes before TestMasters students an other TestMasters instructors. If an instructor does not perform up to par, they are not hired. Only those instructors who can truly teach the material are hired. PowerScore has a much less expensive approach, that we believe is ineffective. They interview and hire their teachers over the telephone WITHOUT FIRST MEETING THEM TO ASSESS THEIR TEACHING ABILITY. Then to train them in the techniques, they send the instructors home made videos of Dave teaching the LSAT. They are paid only $10 per hour to watch the videos and the videos only provide about thirty hours of instruction. We believe that you cannot assess the teaching ability of an individual without meeting them. Also, one can never know if the instructors watch the videos, especially since they are being paid less than half of their teaching rate, which is quite low to begin with. Thus, we have much better and more qualified teachers.
5) Most importantly, our course was written by Robin Singh. He has achieved more perfect scores on the LSAT than anyone else in history. He continually takes the LSAT so that he can improve our teaching methods. He believes that when he puts himself to the pressure of the test, he can really assess the effectiveness of this techniques. Dave Killoran has not taken a Law Services administered LSAT in 10 years and most of the concepts he uses in his course is what he learned from Robin Singh. Since our course has evolved so much since his departure, we know that his course is not as effective as TestMasters.

Sorry for posting this thread twice. The first time I accidently marked it as an off-topic thread.

I guess I'll just repeat my response
-----
Bullshit.
Unless you're taking the class in LA with Robin Singh, they're the exact same thing.
Also, Powerscore has a lower cap of students per class, which means you won't be in a class with 70 other people.

When I was choosing prep classes, Powerscore & Testmasters looked the same. I only chose Powerscore because it was 10 minutes closer to where I work.
That said, my Powerscore class was awesome. Just 13 students tutored by a funny and brilliant teacher.
I improved 1-2 points each pratice test, with my actual LSAT score my personal best, 8 points higher than my first practice.

I'm in the full course now. (Taking the LSAT in June.) I started at 158, now I'm consistently at 164-166. It looks like with more practice/luck, I can get it up a few more points. Hopefully, that will translate to the June test.
Good luck.

As jose_marquez mentioned above, the number of students per class makes for a very big difference. My Powerscore class had about 18 people; a friend's Testmasters class had about 80.
I initially chose Powerscore over TM because the scheduling worked out better for me. I have absolutely no regrets, and I'd recommend it to anybody.

"Powerscore class had about 18 people; a friend's Testmasters class had about 80."
I'm not sure what TestMasters's policy is on class size. However, my friend took TM at Northwestern, and it had only 3 people in the class.

my honest advice is save your money. buy the logic games bible, maybe another. talk to some people who already took it. if you're nervous enough about it to spend a 1000 dollars, you'll be nervous enough to study. buy the old exams. all of them. take them all. twice. review your mistakes. send me 500 dollars. sitting in a class is not going to help you. practice however will.
