I think that basically what it takes is having some relatively serious shit in your past, lying about it on your application, and then having it found out. Or having some really, REALLY serious shit in your past and telling the truth about it.
I think academic dishonesty may do it, too, depending on how serious it was and how contrite you are about it. |

Like if you fail because you have 3 drug convictions in the past two years, they might let you apply again if you go to rehab and stay clean for a year.
But if you are Jeff Skilling or something, there is really no point in reapplying. |

This was not true. I much preferred gummi bears. But there was a cute girl sitting next to me at the mall and I didn't want her to know I liked gummi bears. It seemed gay.
Anyway, I disclosed this on my application at the advice of my law schools dean and was denied admission to the bar and fired. Now I'm the assistant undersecretary of the Department of Defense. |

About the only way to salvage it is if you were convicted of something bad (like, say, robbery) and disclosed that, but forgot to disclose the two arrests--and they were for something minor, like pot possession. In that case, the adcomm is likely to see itself as not being deceived, since you disclosed something a lot worse than what you didn't disclose. They'll tell the C&F people that, and the C&F people will accordingly look at the matter much less seriously. But otherwise, it will not go over well.
