I'm sure they see something similar. I'm very tight with a couple partners (and have been pretty involved in generating budgets as part of pitches), I just don't care enough to delve into this level of detail. I especially don't care about my realization rate; I'm junior enough that I know it's less a reflection of my work quality than clients bitching about paying for junior associates. If my work were getting written off because it's shitty, I'd know about it, and if it's getting written off because clients are cheap, well, that's not a problem at this stage.

Oh, I know realization can matter, but it depends on why realization is an issue. It's more writeoff clients that I'm talking about (we have a couple that basically refuse to pay for anyone junior at all, but they're big enough that we put up with it). That's the kind of thing I don't worry about as much.

EDIT: I'm not actually on any of these cases. It's my understanding that my realization is fine. But (to totally make up an example), if Wal-Mart used my firm as their main outside counsel, I'd feel pretty okay as a junior getting staffed on their matters even if my work was getting written off as a matter of policy.

Agree with the poster above. After busy year followed by a few bad months (none as bad as your 270), I decided that I needed to start pushing back. I start trying to softpeddle on work when I am on pace for 2200 and have a personal goal to never bill more than 2400 ever.

I am on pace for somewhere between 2300-2350 this year, and I'm really trying to get that down. I feel it's probably better for myself and the firm in the long run, because if they work me too hard I'll just end up quitting before my time.
