I spent like 50 hours on a pro bono case my firm made me take

Date: May 23rd, 2013 1:50 AM Author: Fishy thriller center A former partner at my firm/current state supreme court justice came by with 3 other judges in town to shake us down to represnt poor people with their shitty poor people problems. Then the firm (and to a lesser and much more subdued extent, the judge) e-mail blast all associates that haven't taken a case, until one-by-one we all take one. Now I'm spending a fuck-load of time on this dumb fuck guy's dumb fuck problems. It's all consumer bankruptcy/child support/family law type shit, so I'll never use it again. They count the time toward meeting my billable requirement, but not towards my bonus, so its a complete fucking waste because I'm going to kill billables either way. So this is basically a way for me to spend tons of time representing people that literally smell like shit, work on their complete shitlaw case, and lose fucking money that I would have made otherwise. I actually offered to take a different pro bono case I found on my own because it has to do with a subject matter that I work on, and it would look good to put it on my resume, but the furm shut that down. "We'd really prefer you do the pro bono opportunity [Judge/Former parter] presented on." Well no shit. The only reason I proposed my pro bono is so that I could get out of that bullshit. Fuck them.
The worst part is that some of the associates in my office are going to blow the case off--no doubt about it. It'll look great for us when some 2nd year blowsa deadline or misses an appearance for some child custody shit because they forgot to calendar it. |

Gimmie a break. Don't you post constantly that many of the people you threw in jail are recidivist douches with bad habits beyond redemption. Many of these idiots probably don't have their shit together hence being difficult to work with in the first place. Pro bono work helping the grateful bootstrappers usually isn't that shitty and hence usually not worthy of an initial complaint. |
