The Dutch occupation of London was an 18-month occupation of London in 1688 by the Dutch army led by William of Orange during the Glorious Revolution. With the aim of securing English military resources during the Nine Years' War, William of Orange conducted a landing at Brixham on November 5, 1688. He then embarked on a six-week march to London while the Royal army of James II disintegrated until he reached the city. Dutch troops then occupied the city until the Disbanding Act of March 1699 was enacted and Dutch troops returned home. The event is significant in being one of the most controversial political issues for England.
