neither.

it is great. i bill 1800 a year and my firm has a relatively short partnership track. also, partnership is actually obtainable. that being said, it still is private practice, meaning there are shitty elements common to all law firms (billing, demanding clients, etc.).

Friend at school did a stint at Kellogg Huber this summer. Said it interesting because it wasn't a summer program at all, just "okay, work. no promises on either side."

I also had a friend at KH last year. I think what the poaster was trying to communicate is that there was no structured summer program with events or anything of that nature. It was, "Welcome to the firm, get to work."

lol at 210k being middle class. between my wife and i, our household income is 350k. that is not middle class, even in dc.

if you want to criticize me, focus on my net worth.

my job is actually not that dreadful. there really isn't a better position for a 28 year old lawyer who is kind of lazy and lacks entrepreneurial drive.

lol @ "kind of lazy". you work 60+ hours a week in a 1st world country.

your household income is still sub 1%, so you are def middle class.

anyone who is not on track to be stuck in an office job for the rest of their life is in a better position breh.

also, i'm with you brother in that office jobs suck. however, like i said, this is the only job for me to amass a large amount of money in a low-risk fashion. since my living expenses are low, i save about 130k per year. my goal is to do this shit for 5-7 more years and then do something 180 related to my hobby.

This is an idiotic point. Most doctors are STARTING their residency when they are 28, and then have 4 to 6 years after that before they start making what this guy is making now.

AND, a psychiatrist salary peaks at $250 or so. This 28 year's salary can only go up.

i really don't know why we pay above market. my billable rate isn't higher than my biglaw bros.

i honestly think that the partners don't really care about paying more than the market because there are so few associates. paying us an extra 15-20k only costs the firm an extra 150k, which is like 10k per partner per year.

the oddest part is that i had no idea we paid more than the market until i recently saw the market for 2nd and 3rd years. my firm starts at 160k and doesn't advertise the fact that we're above-market paying in later years.

we are definitely as selective grade/school wise as any biglaw firm. we also practice in a niche practice that most people know nothing about, so the firm also wants to see some sort of interest in that practice area.

boutiques all have quirky recruiting practices. i'm sure we're different in how we recruit from bartlett or kellogg, i'm just not sure how.
