I'm less than 30 and I've been offered positions from the typical law firm associate to CEO of a nonprofit. In 10-15 years, I will probably be somewhat wealthy and somewhat influential. I plan to stay in biglaw another 2-3 years before moving to a USAO in a prestigious district and then gunning for partner later or opening up my own firm.
I regret it because instead of paying 2k each month toward loans (100k outstanding), I could be investing that money. It is not just the price tag of HYS vs the Hamilton, but there's the interest payments and the loss of revenue that could be invested.
Instead of a negative net worth, I could have a positive net worth. |

So the key inquiry is over your lifetime, will a law degree from HLS or YLS be more valuable than 150k + Columbia J.D.? Loans, if you play your cards right, should only be a pain for about 5 years. A legal career should last about 40 years, on average. So the 35 years where loans don't matter, do you want a HY degree or a CLS degree? I chose HY degree and I imagine after I pay off my loans, that decision will start to look a lot better and will pay off over the long run.
That being said, the Hamilton is a lot of fucking money and CLS ain't Cooley. |

honestly, it's pretty good. a lot of the stereotypes about students and the neighborhood are overblown (the product of the aspie echo chamber on message boards like this one i guess). i guess the only complaint i have that is cls specific is that the administration and specifically career services seems to suck really hard here even in comparison to other T10 schools. but the good thing about cls is very few people will be in a situation where OCS can fuck up your career because almost everyone who wants it gets some form of biglaw. i, unfortunately, was one of them. |

I obviously don't know what life ITE is, but everyone who wanted CA got it. It was a sizable number of people, and more spent a couple years in NYC before heading west. CLS is a huge name and gives you the same credibility as HLS with firms, other lawyers, etc. CLS is historically extremely prestigious and that is not changing any time soon.
HYSCC are all spectacular platforms for launching any legal career you can possibly think of. The rest is up to you, the relationships you build in law school and as a lawyer and how intelligent (or not) you are in executing a career plan. |
