This one ranking that I saw had Xenogears at #47 and craps like Ogrebattle, Ultima Online, and Suikoden on top of Xenogears.
What a joke.
Xenogears is top 3 RPG of all time. HTFH

Best storyline? Yes, tied with walking dead interactive game. Walking Dead probably has an edge bc the isometric view for PST isnt a good medium for lengthy text

I would agree on Xenogears, despite the 2nd disc being clearly rushed and constrained by budget. I liked it because I thought about the game's issues well after I already finished the game. As much as I loved games like Fallout I/II and Baldur's Gate 2, they were just entertainment for me and didn't really make me think about anything at all.
On a smaller scale, I was very young playing Ultima IV, but that was also a game I thought about well after playing it.

I mean...the BG Fallout series are just cliche.
The plot was clearly aimed at young kids.
Xenogears is for adults. Why won't they remake????

Yeah. I think it has to do with many things, including: the graphics of Xenogears was slightly below par at the time; there were too many Square RPGs that were released around the same time; the complex storyline of Xenogears; how the 2nd disc of Xenogears was not well developed as it could have been due to time/money constraints.
Planescape or BG2 can't touch Xenogears.

Secret of Mana 3 (which was not released in the US) pwns secret of mana (known as secret of mana 2) that came out on SNES.
And Xenogears pwns Secret of Mana 3. Therefore, it also pwns the game you are referring to."

I admit. It is a sad life indeed.
Everytime I play Halo, I put myself in Master Seargent's shoes and derive tremedous amount of geeky pleasure from defending the universe against midget alien proles.
In reality, I am a 30+ year old lawyer bro who gets shitted on at work and have no female contact whatsoever. My only joy in life is playing video games until my brain fries.
But, what about you? Are you that much better than me?

Not judging your character, bro, just choices re: activities. Think about it:
1. Spend fewer (or no) hours per week playing video games.
2. Put at least half of those hours into client development. Go to conferences, events, coffee/beer with potential clients, write an article, join another organization, etc. I don't care if you're a junior associate -- you have to start somewhere and sometime.
3. Get shit on less at work bc you're getting clients (eventually) and promoting the firm. At the very least you feel more confident bc you're building a name for yourself and not just being completely passive.
4. Bc of this, you know more people (and thus have something else to do, maybe even a female) and need the video game outlet less.
That's just what I would do. Video games are a diversion from reality with no life or career benefits, so they should go in the same category as a movie -- like a once-a-week occurrence for most people. The problem is that the games are so immersive that you play it for six hours in a row and waste huge amounts of time, which you (probably) wouldn't do with a movie.

"If Shakespeare Made a Game: Final Fantasy Tactics"
I wouldn't go quite that far, but the plot is pretty good for a vg, especially one released before vgs became more mainstream. I mean, it follows your average high-fantasy sort of plot line and becomes kinda convoluted over time, but the themes are a bit more adult than a lot of vgs even now, especially in the early stages of the game.
I tried to think of a better analogue than Shakespeare, but really that's kinda what the plot aspires to. Lots of medieval machinations, intrigue, betrayals, class conflicts, etc. Think Henry V but with MAGIC.

you should be able to get it as a ROM for an emulator on PC or on iOS in the app store (technically it's an iPhone game but it works just fine if not better on iPad)
the game's sci-fi fantasy theme and art, world design haven't really been equaled IMO
it's also hard enough that you will need a walkthrough (it actually came with a paperback-sized hint book and may have been the first game to do so)

I have played the Fallout series more times than I can count.
Probably my favorite ever was FF6 or Chrono Trigger just because they were out during the formative part of my life when I thought being an IRL hero was possible.
