I'm currently a 2nd year sociology graduate student at the University of Washington in St. Louis.

As a staunch critic of both American foreign and domestic policy, as well as a prominent public scholar who has written about Asian issues before (Cambodia, etc.), I was hoping you could briefly share your thoughts on the possible ways in which American imperialist activity on that continent might be impacting domestic relationships between Caucasian and Asian Americans; specifically, I am interesting in looking at the formation (or lack thereof) of serious romantic relationships between White Girls and/with Asian Guys ("WGWAG" for short).

Currently, WGWAG seems to be dramatically under-represented in American popular culture. Is it fair to attribute this "whitewashing" to the fact that the Asian man simultaneously represents a neutered "third gender" that has largely been stripped of his masculinity in the American popular conception - even as he has often simultaneously been vilified as an exotic and dangerous "other" in martial arts movies? And if that is the case, is it fair to classify this sort of pervasive cultural stereotyping as a form of insidious imperialism being waged against Asian men both abroad and at home?
