It's fairly common among JAGs, and the obvious prospect there is that they can parlay it into an AUSA gig if they choose to separate from JAG. The ones I knew liked it, but seemed like a lot of work in addition to their day job.
I just quickly skimmed LinkedIn out of curiosity, and I didn't find a single SAUSA in my network who's not working for the feds already. So yeah, don't quit your day job. |

One is where the AUSA's have a case where they need the assistance of another agency so an attorney(s) from that agency gets "deputized" as an AUSA so they can appear in court, write briefs, etc. The other is the program where they let people work for free.
