so i was visiting some family friends outside nyc yesterday. they live on this small lake. but i got drunk, took their boat and rowed around the lake. it was pretty cool at sunset. i wouldve swum too if i had my swimming trunks. it wasnt the cleanest lake.. ad the boat was garbage compared to a SCULL. so i know people who live on lake tahoe can row miles and miles every day of the year. and can swim in the middle of the lake.. but what are some other areas around the country where u can do this??

keep in mind that u dont want to do this anywhere too far south because they got alligators and snakes, etc. and there are no cities in the south.

My parents have a cabin in the Poconos but its like a 5 minute drive to the lake. Rowing a boat on the lake at 6am when nobody else is there but you is better than fucking a 10. I've been looking to buy a property right on the lake in the same community, but when properties come on the market they are all like 250k and in such crap condition I would need to plunk down another 200k to make the shit habitable and I don't have a half a million to flush down the toilet for a view. Properties 5 minutes from the lake can be had for 40k.

I was there recently when the water was like 75 degrees but the air temp was 50 and you could see the water vapor coming off the lake and it was so beautiful it could bring you to tears after a year in fucking office hell.

i dont think it's realistic to row anything regularly if u dont live directly on the lake. as i said i was drunk and was just told "if u can untie the boat from the dock u can use it". but if u live 5mins away u need to buy a redneck truck and put it in and out and deal with "public docks",etc. and if u live on the lake u could take a swim in cold water and know there is a fire to warm you up as soon as u get out.

anyway, this lake i was at is so much inferior to lake george... and ive never been to lake tahoe but i know for a fact that there are many more days when the weather is perfect for cycling or swimming, not only rowing.. i think people in toronto like to buy houses on lakes within 1-2hrs of toronto. but i dont think thats comparable to lake tahoe..

The boat is chained to a slipway right on the lake. Just pay for a slipway and you don't need to tow anything. Its $80 a year to the association if I remember right. Its a little 14 foot aluminum thing so its no problem for one person to handle.

Being right on the lake is of course ideal, but its 5-10x more expensive a proposition.

Our property is on the PA side of the Poconos. The bugs aren't too bad, and no problem at all if you don't go outside after 7pm. No spiders in any event, just mosquitoes.

so what would be the lake in wisconsin or mn that would allow u to take a 1mile swim into the center of the lake and use a scull without being bothered by retards on motor boats or cops that tell u u cant swim? near any major cities? also those states are completely flat. the area around lake tahoe has Hors Category bike climbs. Even catskills have the bear mountain for some nice biking. and midwest gets even less sun than nyc.

i mean some people use motor boats to fish or to go from place to place. but in places like texas they use motor boats to create the most noise adn the most smell and if they see a swimmer they'll try to circle him on a motor boat. anyway minneapolis has even fewer days than nyc when it's nice enough to take a swim or a bike ride. if i needed that i might just live in the suburbs of montreal(sadly do not speak french) or toronto.

i know i would still use it more if i had a house right on the lake. but it would need to be a nice, clean lake close enough to a big city. or else it got absolutely nothing on lake tahoe. so any really nice lakes near nyc or denver or chicago? also i am lookign at big cities because i want some day when i am a rich, to have opportunities to drive into the city to dine at a nice russian restaurant.. there are not many places outside of nyc that have real russians.

No. There's usually gross weeds and pond scum. You have to live next to a nice public lake where they keep it clean. Private lakes have gross slimy plants, swimming in them is disgusting.

well i thought most good lakes have a public beach but also a lot of private properties. like lake george in ny has a nice beach. i am sure lake tahoe is the same. most lakes in canada are the same.. i once parked my bike in new brunswick and just stayed on the lake public area for a few days and just swam there. so in those lakes if u have a house with a private dock u still get all the benefits of a nice lake.

u cant swim 1 mile out on the ocean. and u cant even scull. in california there are at least nice bicycle trails starting at the ocean. but all along east coast there is absolutely nothing good about the ocean except for the "view". i guess u're one of those people who walks around the beach with a dog and leaves all that dogshit.

Lake Minnewaska used to be a pristine crystal blue lake. I grew up going to Lake Minnewaska and stayed at the hotel many times. I used to cliff dive off the rocks by the boat house, canue around the whole lake, dive down and drink the cold crisp clean water, explore marked and unmarked trails, spend hours eating blueberries in the middle of nowhere. Lake Minnewaska was alway a special place. The most beutiful lake I've ever seen until yesterday. Now the lake is murky brown. A common lake with FISH in it! How did fish get in the lake and change the ecology? What happened to that special pristine lake?!! The state took over Lake Minnewaska from the Phillips/Smiley Family who governed over the land for almost 150 years and it didn't take long before they destroyed it. What happened?????

Please remember that there are Copperheads and Rattlesnakes in Minnewaska and both inhabit the waters. Unless you are a snake expert (Herpetologist) please treat all snakes as poisinous. Also many people bitten by "harmless" snakes die from infection and even rabies.

faggot amerikans:

Does anyone exactly know what will happen to you if you are caught swimming where you are not supposed to be? Are you kicked out right away, is there a fine etc...etc? I am a very good swimmer but don't have the time or patience to go out and take a swimming test so I can swim on the other side of Lake M. The public beach at Lake M is always too crowded and just not obsolete enough for me. I kind of like to swim where no one is around, just peace and quiet. I love Lake Awosting and the beach there is nice, but during off season the lifeguards are not there and there are still lots of days when it is still hot enough to go swimming but you are not suppossed to. I am a mature adult not looking to get into trouble or cause any. Would love to be able to swim accross Lake Awosting but can only do that in the Trialathon and I am not good enough in the running and biking events to make it worth entering. Maybe one of the Park Rangers can answer this if they are reading it. Also what about Mud Pond? I have been out there a few times, but not swam in it. I know you are not allowed to swim there either, but does anyone know if it swimmable? Is it loaded with mud for instance? How deep is it? So once again--Does anyone exactly know what will happen to you if you are caught swimming where you are not supposed to be? Are you kicked out right away, is there a fine etc...etc? Thank you very much.
