I had an interview at a somewhat smaller office of a biglaw firm. I was not exactly happy with the interview but one partner, who is a resident of that office (let's call him partner A) seemed to like me while the other, a non-resident, did not like me that much (partner B). I proceedd to the second stage of the interviews and i would need to meet with them separately, first with 'partner B' (because I go to school in the city where the main office is) and then with 'partner A" and partner C, also a resident at the regional office. I will meet with A and C regardless of how the meeting with B turns out.

partner B is a resident at the main office but he does not otherwise do the hiring. He does spend some time at the small office though.

is it true that when a small office of a biglaw firm hires new attorneys, people in the main office will make final decisions? I am so afraid that partner b does not like me enough.

correct me if i am wrong - but doesn't the main office makes decisions on salaries ? when they hire they will be taking money out

and this is a relatively new and small office.

the general rule is, if ANYBODY doesn't like you, you don't get hired. there are simply too many qualified candidates that they can choose somebody that everybody likes.

yeah actually this is closer to the big picture. but fwiw in my firm the managing partner of the satellite office makes individual hiring decisions while the management committee based in the main office makes firm-wide decisions, like # in # out of each practice group, each year.

Depends on a couple things, like size of the office (really tiny makes it more likely that someone at the main office, or at least a larger office, will have a say in your hire simply to make sure enough people vet you) or the nature of the job you'll be hired for (e.g., at my current job, the practice group head at our main office literally interviews every candidate at every office for an opening in our group, usually by phone or videoconference, and has the final say--but this is not the case for all practice groups at my firm).

u're fine. the partner did not use your second meeting to determine your third.
