That way, if they fuck it up, it's pretty easy to get the suit replaced. A third-party tailor fucks your suit up, and there's no way the store takes it back.

Unless you want to drop 2K on semi-custom Italian suits, the only way to go is with travelling tailors from Hong Kong and Vietnam. These are the only suits that I buy now. The quality and fit is >>>>> brooks or banks. I'll dig up the links for the two guys that I use if anyone is interested. |

This Hemrajani guy made me one blue windowpane suit. His pricing is pretty much in line with low end off the rack at brooks brothers. I was pretty pleased with the result.
Chan is the best I've used by far. You pay alot more, about 1.2K per suit, but you basically get a 4K custom suit in return. I've got a solid navy and a solid charcoal from Chan. The only downside is that it takes 3 months to get your suit after you're measured. I also get shirts from Chan, which you can order online. |

Check their website for when they'll be in your area and you can go in and have them measure you, look at fabric samples in person, and talk about what options you want on your shirt. If you're confident about your measurements and what you want, you can just order from their webpage.
There's other Hong Kong tailors, but I don't really know anything about them.
Even landsend will do custom shirts for cheap, but I wasn't super fond of the one I got from them. I'll probably stick with Hong Kong. |

This place actually does super cheap shirts (~$50) that are pretty nice. However, their service sucks, and they'll take 6 months if you don't call them in HK and harrass them constantly. I used them once and was pleased, but their service isn't worth the extra $50 to me.
Not sure why you need a custom shirt for OCI. No one can tell anyway because you'll be wearing a jacket the whole time. |

The fabrics on mine are Zegna, which = much higher quality than brooks. Then you tell him EXACTLY how you want the suit to look, such as how high you want the lapels to be, how you want the pockets to look, how you want the shoulders to look, how many buttons you want on the sleeves, how you want the lapel to roll, etc. Then the busy asian guy spends a solid 30 mins measuring you. There's no way to do this without making the suit from scratch. They'd need at least 10,000 variations of this "rack suit" that you refer to. You obviously don't know shit. |
