I think you're in a pretty unique situation here. Just looking at straight numbers, that LSAT is a huge disadvantage. However, you've obviously proven yourself in some pretty taxing programs.

Also, I'm inferring from "As a foreign student..." that you're a URM? Or at least that English is your 2nd language? If that's the case, I'd find some way to weave that into my PS. I mean, make it the centerpiece of your PS. Don't be afraid to hit the admissions staff over the head with it.

Just on straight numbers, you're probably looking Top 20-30. However, I'd bet that you're going to find at least a few T14's that will look past the LSAT. I know Berkeley is notorious for favoring high GPA/lowish LSAT splits

good luck

Is there any sort of TOEFL requirement for ESL LS applicants? Regardless, I think that basing your PS on the challenges you've overcome learning the language and doing well (er... great) in school already demonstrates that you're going to do the same in LS is the route to go

Otherwise, 161 doesn't look so hot

when you have a split like that, its going to be a hit and miss application process. I'd apply to a lot of places. I think you'll definitely get into a top 20, and maybe a few, but I couldn't really say which ones. I'd throw in apps to ever school you like in the 15-35 range.

i edited because i really am not sure how school deal with international students. If you weren't international, you would have no shot at the top 10. But in your case, you may.

I'd apply to as many of the top 30 as you can afford to apply to. The fact that you're foreign should make you a diversity candidate, make sure you make it perfectly clear on the application that you're from Asia, not Asian-American.

I think Northwestern is the only top ranked school where you have a fighting chance, b/c of your background- NU loves professionals. But you should apply to all the top schools except maybe HYS. You wouldn't be the first person to get in with your numbers.

With his/her intelligence level it's pretty tragic. All this person had to do was learn to read properly, definitely something that could be done within the first year of schooling.

I don't think it is that simple. As least, not when I compare with my fellow foreigners. But I agree that my LSAT score is a TTT.

EDIT : "I" posted the previous reply.

Subject: your situation is what's wrong with the application process

I cannot fathom how the adcomms can look at someone who has logged as many years as you have with proven fantastic numbers - come on, a 3.89 ANYWHERE in almost ANY subject is impressive - but the fact that they could shrug that off and instantly put an application like that in a 25%-or-less-admitted category for a dumbass three-hour exam blows my mind.

Tell anyone on the street - or academia - that GPA and one if not both eyebrows raise: "Hey, you must be DAMNED smart." Then tell an adcomm member the same: "Oh, but a 161? Good luck at Cooley."

Just venting. Apply to all the top schools anyway. It still shocks me that this exam counts so heavily. They should have a GPA cutoff above which applicants need not take the asshole LSAT (except for bogus majors).
