that studio is Finished unless they completely clean house

they're like an even more skinsuited zombie version of blizzard. critically infested by shitlibs who are incinerating hundreds of millions of dollars while coasting on established IP created by white guys 20+ years ago

they could have printed money forever releasing reskinned civ 4/5 with various new gimmicks but instead they tried to reinvent the wheel.

why do companies do this? look at expedition 33 amoging final fantasy. people liked the format! you can always make new franchises instead of reinventing existing ones!

longtime civ player-- have not bought 7 yet based on the reviews. Innovation and improvement is always welcome but you can tell they were trying to build their base by appealing to people who DON'T LIKE PLAYING GAMES LIKE CIV. Now you lost you r loyal customers and didn't really pick up any new players.

It's like the Cracker Barrell story-- you have a solid customer base, don't get lazy and improve where you have to but otherwise stay the course and let the steady stream of revenue continue.

Why don't you make your own video game using AI? Incorporate all the features you loved in old Civ games and sell it for money.

any theories on why companies like to dramatically reinvent shit? do you think part of it is about the creators getting bored? so it's not really a business based decision?

it's just retarded managers trying to make their "mark" so you get Vomit by Committee instead of Visionary Curation

well you can't just create the exact same game. no one would buy NES super mario bros over and over. nor would someone keep buying civ 1 with better graphics.

you have to have some innovation while keeping the core experience in line with the franchise. i think this can lead to BIG CHANGES from ambitous but well-intentioned designers. 3D mario on the m64 was a big departure and now those marios outsell 2D marios.

These games were always ass. When I played Civ 2 I "won" on deity level by pop rushing and cranking out melee units in 300BC. I barely played any of the later entries because the computer would just start cheating past about 0AD, same as always. Turn up the difficulty and the computer just cheats harder. I keep waiting for someone to make a game in this genre that's actually good and would never even think to play another Civ game.

There are already lots of 180 games out there. I just played Doom 2016 for the first time a few weeks ago and it's 180. I don't understand people who play shitty games but apparently they exist.

“growth” mandate leading to cancer

incentives (socially acceptable, not getting permabanned by payment processors or whatever, etc) + most easily/lazily identifiable path to growth for untalented middle management typically leads to degradation or complete loss of features desirable to original consumer. as rough edges are sanded down, original consumer drops out of target market, while new markets predictably fail to develop

but theres an inescapable gravitational pull of an example like marvelslop where comicbook nerdery was successfully mass marketed and converted to probably 1000x original IP value, and that may be an absurdly conservative estimate, so the GC incentive is to churn that slop and pray one out of a hundred hits

how is this a question being asked right now? we literally just had the cracker barrel fiasco happen. it just played out before our eyes

these people do this stuff because they're incompetent hacks who don't give a shit about the companies that they "run," and because they face zero consequences for their failures. the goofy DEI shitlibs and females currently "in charge" of Firaxis will go off and be hired elsewhere by other shitlibs and females at some other company

there are never any consequences for the people who make these decisions. always the same story

tbf OP is literally about a consequence for one of said people. at the end of the day if shit bleeds money they will be kicked out. these people thrive and metastasize when the money printer is on but are the first to get the boot when it dries up

that person will be promptly hired at some other random company for $400,000k/year and do the exact same thing again
