Subject: Fletcher or UCSD-IR/PS?

So I've been admitted to both Fletcher and IR/PS...Fletcher is giving me 16k/year and IR/PS is giving me 12.5k/year...Am I crazy to even be considering IR/PS?

The main reason for concern is that my regional focus is Japan and East Asia so obviously IR/PS is strong in that area while Fletcher seems less focused on East Asia. Also, if I were to get CA residency, IR/PS would end up being about 20k cheaper overall I think.

I'm leaning towards Fletcher given the decent money offer and the superior IR program/reputation...

Any input?

Subject: Question

Hi, I am also interested in applying to IR/PS for 2010 and I have a question. How stringent is IR/PS in terms of language proficiency? Did you go to Japan to study? I am a Japanese american and I never formally studied Japanese in college but I speak and read the newspaper fluently. Do you think this is adequate? Also, what type of employers are you looking at after graduation? private sector? government?

Unless you're really concerned about money (ie. you're already like $20k in debt), it makes no sense whatsoever for you to consider IR/PS. HTH

haha well I'm like already 70k in debt so that is quite a concern. but I don't think I can actually get residency, so the cost difference will be negligible I think

Are you going to Admitted Student day?

What career track are you interested in at IR/PS?

why wouldn't you be able to get residency? Unless you are not an American citizen, it shouldn't be a problem.
