I imagine some of you have dealt with this issue before. I will be starting an MA in IR program this fall. While I took 3 years of a foreign language in my undergrad - its been about 3 years since Ive taken that language so Im very rusty. Is my only option to start at level 1 of the same language when I get to grad school?

theres no need to start all over, brush yourself up the best you can... there are a lot of resources available. im currently studying abroad and ive figured out that there is more to learning the language than classroom time... download podcasts for pronunciation (always free, so thats a plus), buy a few grammar books, and post a sign at a local university looking for a "tandem partner" (someone who can speak the language that you want to learn will speak to you/help you out a bit and you do the same for them with english).. good luck!

yes, dumbass, you have to start from level 1, because there is no other way to "test" your level in a language.
