My gpa is only cumulative 3.52 w/ dept. honors~ but I worked like 2 jobs or more during enrollment and paid for college completely on my own.

Marshall scholarship requires a 3.7 gpa so I don't make the cut. Any ideas of scholarships, fellowships or grants that I might be able to apply to to help me pay off LSE debt?

LSE, for the most part, doesn't give out funding. Their master's programs are cash cows; look at their self-published admission statistics.

Subject: I know what you're thinking...

...because I thought it, too.

You're thinking that at about GBP 10-12k ($20k) + room and board, you can pay for a 12-month program at LSE for the cost of tuition alone at a US school. (Am I right?).

I want to strongly caution you against leaving the country to get a grad credential. Many people do so, and flourish. I did not.

I thought I had it all figured out. At the same time I was looking at LSE, I was also looking at a grad program at a top-ranked school here in the US. I had grown up outside the country, and so I figured I could take LSE, London and whatever they through at me in stride. I was wrong. In retrospect, I should have prepared myself more thoroughly for what I was getting into. However I also feel that if I knew then what I know now, I would never have gotten on the plane.

The long-and-short of my story is that I ended up coming back to the US and am now finishing other program I'd originally been looking at. However, in the meantime, I wasted $36k and 12 months I will never get back.

I don't want for this to sound too discouraging, but I wish someone had 'wisen-ed me up' back when I was in your shoes.

I'm happy to elaborate via private email -- please post a way to reach you if you'd like to pursue further.

Regarding loan relief: google 'College Cost Reduction & Access Act 2007,' or read the excellent program summary at FinAID.org

SOAS students are generally miserable (read: outspoken, far-left, relentlessly contrarian) to begin with. Add 'Live in London' to their pretension arsenal and they become impossible to talk to or be around.

are you talking about grad students? because most SOAS grad students would rather live in a yurt in the jungle than London.

Did LSE master's degree.

Got a good job out of it despite awful economy, as did many of my classmates.

As with any terminal master's degree, don't expect it to yield amazing benefits if you don't have the right experience.

LSE will give funding even to American students if you apply early enough.

Get a part-time job to pay living costs in London (I had two). With current exchange rate there is no reason to go more than $30k in debt assuming absolutely no funding. It's up to you if you think this is worth it.

This is awesome information. Was it hard to find a job here? And how many hours a week did you work? LSE recommends no more than 15 hours
