If you come from a top three liberal arts college in the States or attended an Ivy League school, Stanford, Duke or Georgetown, and you have a GPA slightly below, at or above their cut-off of 3.5 (or 3.7 the last I heard?), then you'll be assured a response in less than a month. I fit the profile above, and that's what happened to me. I was actually really surprised at how fast they responded. I figured that's because I (and possibly you?) hit the sweet spot for them: a full-fee paying student from a top American undergrad. They eat that up here. The Development Studies department (or DESTIN as they call it here) is one of the most well-funded and regarded of the departments here. So expect to get better teaching, administration and educational services in general from this department. Outside DESTIN, Economics, International Relations, and Political Science, all the other departments feel sorta left out in the cold in terms of funding, which is weird. Eh, I've come to terms with the resource disparities at LSE.
Also, get used to some lame-ass bureaucracy. This place is far less efficient and user-friendly than American schools. And it seems to be a British thing since I have friend at Cambridge and she complains of the same shortcomings constantly. |
