Hi, all three rating agencies will provide you with the tools and knowledge to analyze the secondary market. As you already know, each analyst at rating agencies specializes in a very narrowly defined area. You have to be prepared to become an expert in a given niche. I personally would not work for a rating agency early in your career because you are giving up an opportunity to expand your knowledge across all industries. Also, a lot of the senior analysts once worked in the industries that they are responsible for. For example, a senior analyst in the healthcare group might have been a researcher for a pharmaceutical company prior to obtaining an MBA. For this reason, many tend of be relatively old. They may be knowledgeable about certain fields but many of them lack managerial skills.
Please note that my assessment only applies to the corporate team. I do not know anything about the sovereign group.
Are you thinking about going back for your MBA or M.A in international relations?
