Subject: I am worried about my chances....

Hey everyone. I kind of have the admissions woes, as I am getting ready to send my last application out. I just need some reassurance about what anyone else thinks my chances are, because I am beginning to make myself paranoid that nobody will take me at all. I am a double major of International Studies and German at West virginia University and am finishing a year early. I have studied abroad twice, once for a year before college in Germany, and once for a college semester in Sweden. This has helped my IS emphasis of Europe. I have worked as an intern for the corporate social responsibility department of Volkswagen in Wolfsburg Germany, and am currently working part time along with my studies for a catering company. Finally, my GPA is a 4.0 and my GRE was 570V 620Q 5AW (probably my biggest weakness, but I decided to concentrate on my studies rather than study again for a potentially worse score). I am very involved on my campus with clubs and societies. I am applying to GMU's ICP program, Pitt's GSPIA, American's SIS and Syracuse Maxwell's MAIR program. My recommendations are from my favorite faculty (professors and PhD candidates who have taught my classes) but from classes which relate to my intended field of study. Will someone tell me what they think of what I have going for me? honesty is appreciated.

I think you have set yourself up pretty well as far as schooling/studying goes.

But I really think you should consider working abroad for a few years after college (be it for an NGO, government, or private company). That will strengthen your application immensely (and ultimately make you a better student, able to get more out of the MA, and able to secure a better job after).

even if you do get into one of these programs i suggest you turn them down (or defer) before taking on the debt to get a degree that may make you less employable...
