fulbright are not competitive at all.

among the fulbrighters i've known are law school dropouts (they got fulbright scholarships before they went to law school) and so-called 'professors' who never managed to publish a decent scholarly essay.

ETA fulbright grants are not very competitive. I don't know much about the academic grants for professors, but I can imagine them being fairly easy to get.

But research grants, especially to the UK and Germany, are very competitive.
