Subject: some questions
Graduating from school that doesnt have comm dept, you were the person that made me become aware of comm as an academic discipline. Now I am thinking of getting a phd in comm. I have several questions.
1. How important is rankings? It seems that Penn is the no.1 in most rankings I have seen, and even it doesnt seem to dominate others in terms of placing their students. Is it all about the candidates work and ability, or does pedigree come into play when hiring?
2. Iowa seems to be ranked high in general. But just glancing at the so called 'top' departments it is hard to find a faculty with Iowa phd. Is it still a top dept? (mass comm not comm studies)
3. Wisconsin, Illinois VS Florida, Arizona. I strongly prefer to stay somewhere warm. Considereing that Wisconsin and Illinois are heavy weights in comm, is it unwise to attend Arizona or Florida over them?
