Subject: summer classes to prep for grad!!

I want to go into International Development/Econ for Grad but have taken virtually no econ classes and haven't taken a math course since my soph year.

I have a BA in Political Science, am working for an international microfinance organization and have studied abroad in an Econ/Global Business program. (also have loads of NGO experience abroad)

Thinking about taking some intro mac or micro econ courses for summer school or possibly math courses- or would this only draw more attention to the absence of quantitative courses on my resume if I'm taking Intro to Mac Econ as a non-matriculated student?!

If you think it would help my resume, which would be better: Intro to Mac/Micro Econ courses or an Intermediate Math Class

Take 2 courses this summer, a macro and micro econ. Most top programs actually require both of these as prerequisites to even applying.

If you take them as UG classes they'll probably be easier for you, but if you take them on the graduate level you could try to transfer them in and have them count towards your grad degree down the road. This could save you some time/money in the long run, but will make this upcoming summer much less enjoyable.

Assuming you do well in both, no this won't hurt your application nor will it draw negative attention to what you did/didn't take as an UG. Just explain it well in your personal statement - you weren't as interested in econ for xyz reasons then .. but after your great microfinance WE since graduating at xyz NGO you've really wanted to get into the field more ... etc, etc, be creative.

Good luck.

Does it matter if it's from a CC or top tier school if it's non-matriculated courses? It's ALOT cheaper to take classes from a CC... that said, I'm not sure how much this will or won't affect grad admissions?

I personally wouldn't go the CC route. It doesn't need to be Ivy or anything like that, but go to something at least with a national name. Let me know your city/region and I'll give you some ideas ...

Yeah UW is your best bet. I'd avoid a CC. Don't you get in-state prices?

Depends where I can get in.... i'm still in the preliminary process of prepping for my app process.

I'm looking at LSE, Fletcher, SIPA, Georgetown and HEI (Switzerland) if I can get into any of those.

How come?
