Subject: personal statement for LSE

I'm applying to LSE and one of the questions for the personal statement asks, why would you choose to study in the UK?

I wrote a very controversial thesis in undergraduate school about Marxism and the global market economy. It received positive praise from a couple notable professors- but managed to offend a couple as well.

A huge reason I want to study development at LSE is because of my frustrations with the insular ideology and limitations of many US programs.

Is it too risky/offensive to discuss this in my PS?

not sure about LSE, but you should look into the the economics department at the NSSR. http://www.newschool.edu/nssr/subpage.aspx?id=9166

there are many professors here who would appreciate a thesis such as yours, especially since some are marxists themselves.

i sincerely doubt you said anything original re: marxism and the global market economy (see world systems theory).....so i wouldnt worry about it. go ahead and mention.

edit: also, check out the sociology dept at SUNY-Albany (and folks decended from there). They are known worldwide for their marxist interpretation/approach to development and the global market economy.

You think LSE is more ideologically experimental than its American counterparts? It's not. Consider that Anthony Giddens is one of the best known professors at LSE.

Subject: good job OP...

I don't know about LSE but the New School, UMass Amherst, SUNY Albany and Loyola have some Marxists in their Economic departments.

LSE seems like it would be very pro-free market. It was the University of Chicago of the UK back when it rivaled Cambridge in Economics. So I wouldn't recommend it.

But keep up the good work and don't listen to some of the idiots in here. A bunch of policy wonk, pro-establishment, wannabe I-banker dip shits in here.

Free market fundamentalism is ttt. Praising financial schemes and then blaming a "few bad apples" when the shit hits the fan is cliche.
