Hello All
I have been admitted to SIPA MIA and HKS MPA2 program and I am very confused between them and having a hard time finding right alumni to get my questions answered.
I wish to pursue a job in either private sector (consulting, public finance) or places like IMF, World Bank, UN etc.
As an international student which program would offer most opportunities in the US? Is MPA2 considered inferior compared to MPA/ID by employers and do they have same opportunities available as MPA/ID & MPP students. The placement data for MPA2 is skewed by joint degree MBA students on HKS website - so it is hard to find out actual placement record of only MPA2 students. Additionally, doe anybody know the class size of MPA2 at HKS.
Looking forward to replies. any info would be much appreciated .

most don't except in worldbank, imf and ifc. they know what mpaid can do or more importantly, what mpaid cannot do as well. And those are the people who know what mpa2 cannot do.
UN? depends on the agency.
McK knows what mpaid can do. BCG and Baan.. they have no clues. Financial sectors? whats MPA or MPP again?

If you are not a joint degree student, go with MPAID or SPIA MIA will get you a better job placement.
MPA2 is very soft in its curriculum (not that its bad since you can take whatever classes you wanted) and its for joint degree student. As such, the program director DOES NOT CARE your career placement since he/she assumes, correctly too, that should be taken care of by law, business or your prior career background.
So if I were you, if you have a choice and a REAL network, go with MPAID or SAIS. If you just want to party everyday and network for 2 years and go back to your old job then MPA2 is the best thing!!
To answer your original question. MPA2 is more or less useless at worldbank IMF or IFC unless you have a business degree or experiences. SIPA isn't that great either since its equally bad. I would have suggested SAIS if you were applying back then.
As for private sector, I would go for MPA2 and get the best of your networking skill instead of SIPA. Uphill battle...
