Hi,

I have just received an admission from MC/MPA at the Kennedy School. What % of students get a scholarship? And when are scholarship decisions made / communicated to students? Any counsel much appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks waka. Much appreciated. You planning to join?

Do you have a sense of when the first fee instalment is due? Is this due after the scholarship decisions are made? The HKS website wasn't clear.

I applied last year and deferred; I didn't get any fellowships last year and I'm hoping that I at least get one this year. I'm a 16-year military officer. UG/Grad 3.46/3.30

I have applied only to MC/MPA in HKS. Nothing else. Applied for 2 fellowships - JKG and MR. Would like to apply for anything else which might be relevant. Ideas?

I am a strategy consultant based in Europe. 9 years consulting exp across Asia-Pacific, Europe and Africa. Got interested in public sector when I consulted governments/ public sector organizations. Planning to focus on government advisory after MC/MPA. Before consulting, spent 3 yrs in consumer goods. I am an engineer undergrad and MBA by training.

Your profile?

Subject: MC/MPA

Hi All,

Just curious - I am a domestic student who has applied to the MC/MPA @ HKS. Is it likely that Mason Fellows have found out their admit decisions and that it will be more likely mid-April for domestic/non-Mason applications?

Almost had a heart attack until I started reading through the thread! Also, Waka, how did you make the case for deferment and do they look on that. I have several critical things that I am working on my community and I am gett8ng a lot of pressure if I AM admitted to defer and make sure everything here is in order!

Thoughts appreciated. Thanks!

I think the Masons are communicated earlier than the domestic students. The program starts a month early, Masons have to get visas sorted, etc.

Waka, I am also interested in understanding how you managed to get a deferral. I might have to consider a deferral for personal reasons. Your thoughts much appreciated. Thanks

Thanks gdab; that's what I figured. Who did you consult with? I am a former Accenture employee (government practise) from New Zealand now based in the US. Interested in your motivation to examine public sector issues.

Unfortunately can't divulge the name, still working. Sorry.

Working with governments and public sector clients got me interested in pursuing this line.

Deferrals are decided on a case-by-case basis. Once you have been admitted, email HKS at appstatus@hks.harvard.edu and tell them why you want a deferral (also log-on to the HKS portal where you filled-out your financial aid info and decline admission). You will be asked to mail a seat deposit of $750. If they accept your deferral request, they keep the deposit and it will be applied to next year's tuition.

Just spoke with someone from Financial Aid; the fellowship decision that came-out April 3rd were for the full-time program. The MC-MPA fellowship decision will not come-out until early May.

Thanks Waka. I don't know how anyone else feels about this, but the MC/MPA timeframe seems brutal. There isn't much time between finding out about the program and the finances required before actually starting. It's complicated when I throw in relocating family, finding daycare etc etc. Oh well.

Hi, just got my admissions letter for the MC/MPA as well. Am now trying to decide between that and SIPA's PEPM. Would appreciate any thoughts on this.
