Is the Harris School infected with the same kind of neoclassical/ pure-market insanity that's rampant in the University of Chicago's economics department? What's the general political climate there, both academically and socially?

It is pretty diverse politically. I would say that there are more conservatives and libertarians there than most policy programs. However, I would still say more than half the student body would identify themselves as either democrats or liberals. The academics are actually more focused on implementing and applying microeconomic theory and formal political economy models in their research to solve public policy problems than focusing on macroeconomic theory.
