Other than losing half of its ICO funds to parity hackers.

Why does it have a one billion market cap?

AE is coded in erlang and has made a big push to bring traditional app developers to their project. They were also working on a decentralized oracle solution before Chainlink and Augur. Can't really blame them for the Parity bug, but it does go to show that ICOs are massively overfunded when they are doing so well on half of their raised eth. It's overvalued like most other crypto projects, but it's not a clear scam like the Chinese crap TRX, VEN, WTC etc

How is VEN a scam?

I'd honestly like to hear a dissenting viewpoint in a little more detail

After VEN announced a major strategic partnership with BMW.

thank you

It does seem like a credited strategy to try to win the blockchain wars. I suppose 1 billion in cap would be fair even if AE has a 1% chance of succeeding.

(Whether they actually have such 1% chance is questionable of course.)

I do love the potential for decentralized oracles.

There was a lot of bizarre early drama outside of the Parity hack. The lead dev tried to hold the project to ransom and threatened to exploit backdoors he had written into the code if he wasn't paid a few million dollars. He was fired and ultimately all the code had to be redone. I think 1% chance is probably accurate, they are really focusing on mobile blockchain "aepps" as they call them which is sort of unique in the space.

Any platform targeting mobile is cr in my book since everyone's been ignoring it thus far (even though the present and future are clearly in mobile), but their early drama really soured me. It was a bunch of non-devs that started it and were taking advantage of a lone dev that they didn't pay, seemed fucked up

No that is fake news spread by the old main dev Zach, who actually pulled the same shit at Augur! The guy was an aspie with a hugely inflated ego. A workaday dev who thought that he owned the code he was employed to write. And he did get paid, but he thought he deserved something like 10% of the ico funds which was laughable.
