this used to be one of the most frequented cryptocurrency fora on the web, and now days go by in between posts, which are usually by me.

99% of people have given up on cryptocurrency. The price will stay dead until a new generation of younger people starts to take interest in its capabilities

Average person cares about altcoins and shitcoins. Average person wants, nay expects, 10-100x returns to be commonplace. Average person has the patience and attention span of a hummingbird and needs constant hyper-stimulation to stay engaged (see: fake news).

They won't be back (if ever) until the next major hype cycle is in full throes

"hype" *is* more people investing. To say they will come back with the next "hype cycle" is like saying "it will get colder when the temperature drops"

I disagree, lots of assets go up in price all the time without any associated hype. And BTC doesn't strictly need retail hype to increase from here. But if there is to be another retail-heavy boom like 2017 it will only happen on the back of new all-time highs combined with major real-world use cases to drive enough simultaneous excitement to entice normies again.

If the price can increase without "normies" then normies are completely disposable. The good news for them? It can't.

Lots of assets don't need normies. Luxury real estate for instance, or high-priced wine. You just need demand from wealthy people combined with limited supply.

Both real estate and wine are goods consumed en masse by normies. Are you considering ethereum the "luxury" or "fine" echelon of crypto currency?

No, I'm thinking it's BTC that gets this treatment eventually and maybe no other coin. Altcoins definitely require normie interest
