As far as circuit judges, people like Wardlaw, Wood have been in the picture. Part of the problem is all the Clinton era Circuit judges are too fucking old and Obama has yet to get any of his guys(save Lynch) through. Greenaway would be the youngest person on the court (born '57) and will probably get a floor vote for the 3rd Cir. any day now. I personally think an emergency pick would be Wood, Wardlaw, or Kagan, fwiw, and not Greenaway.

it's comparable to Greenaway though. Career trial judge (state judge in Souter's case) with a little bit on a federal appeals court. At least Greenaway's spent his career applying federal law. Souter was writing decisions about New Hampshire no fault divorce like 11 months prior to being on the SCOTUS.
