This is easy.

1. Ruskie goes there.

2. Boalt admitted Ruskie (157 LSAT).

3. It's a festering TTT in decline- soon 150's will be in.

4. It's not an Ivy.

5. It's PUBLIC.

6. There's lots of hippies there.

7. It will always be Stanford's bitch.

8. Massive budget cuts will make it even more TTT.

9. The building looks like a TTT high school.

10. The name "Boalt" sounds like a weird sexual thing, like fisting a goat in the ass while being sodomized by a transvestite.

I didn't bother applying to this TTT in decline and neither should anyone else (unless you are a TTT student).

Yep..in retrospect, I feel remarkably stupid for neglecting to consider the possibility that this could happen when I wrote the note. I mean, come on--it is Berkeley afterall! What the heck was I thinking when I actually believed the instructions that specifically stated that scores would be based on the quality of the analysis?

The fact that someone would actually mess with the process so drastically seems so outrageous. That's precisely why it worked. What's sad is that plenty of "low" quality submissions were accepted--I know people on LR who admit that they wrote awful notes.

Oh well. Just another reason NOT to attend this shithole...

2. That a more conservative faculty member helped prepare the materials and that CLR is "full of conservatives" doesn't foreclose the possibility of grading irregularities. In fact, my information has even been corroborated by a conservative on CLR.

I don't have a blog, and I haven't submitted the information to any bloggers as of yet. I did a quick google search to find out whether or not anyone else has mentioned it, but I didn't find anything. I think that most of the people who know about the fiasco have remained silent. Many other students are totally in the dark.

That said, I'd be thrilled if any bloggers out there would be interested in helping spread the word. It really is a shame that California Law Review got away with this. Some publicity would at least increase awareness.

Yes, the curve does benefit those at the bottom. That's its advantage. However, their benefit comes at other students' expense.

Well, arguably it is those at the near-top who get screwed most, while those at the near-middle and the bottom make out like bandits. The guy who would have been at the 40% mark gets the same grade as the guy who would have been at the 11% mark. Basically, there is no A-/B+ distinction. this is great for those students who are slightly above average, but not really that great (and of course, absolutely terrible for those who are excellent but not quite the best).

Those in the middle don't quite get screwed as badly, since the middle is never really good anyway. But the bottom students are saved the embarrassment of being at the bottom.

In practice, though, complaints about only getting an H are so rare. The person at 11% doesn't need any sympahthy.

The curve effectively eliminates "the middle." The 59th percentile gets the same P as the lowest score in the class. There might actually be a great difference in quality between those two exams.

Yep, my LSAT sucks. It's lame - i know. Fortunately, i'll be going to a school that actually gives real grades. So, i'll definitely be able to see how I stack up. we'll see ...

Subject: The true top 10 reasons

10) Liberal professors

9) Callous administraion. I am talking about the main university admin. The Boalt admin is actually nice and efficient. But yeah... this is a typical state run bureucracy. Get ready to run around a lot to get housing, parking, etc.

8) Going to classes with the homeless. Thats right folks, they are living inside the building now.

7) The grading system here is crazy. The top 10% in a class get High Honors(HH). THe next 30% get Honors(H). And the rest 60% get Pass (P). So unless you are good, there is no way to distinguish yourself from the total dumbasses who would have gotten Ds had there been a regular grading system.

6) Very very liberal student body. Yes I know this is Berkeley. And I know that you know this is Berkeley. But seriously, these guys are crazy to point that its funny. Militantly liberal. Completely unwilling to listen to another view point. All student organisations are basically public interest organisations. There are like 3 republicans at Boalt.

5) Good news - there are more girls than guys. Bad news - most are deformed in some way or the other. The ones that are not deformed, know it. There is hardly any school sponsored interaction with the other programs. No socials with biz school etc. Unless you make the effort, you are stuck with the ugly law school broads.

4) Bad value. Instate tuition is now 21 grand. And the out-of-state is comparable to private ivies. Why attend a TTT state school when you can attend Penn for the same price.

3) Berkeley is a crap hole. The city is dirty, smelly, run over by the homeless and the retarded, and gone to dogs. I wonder where all the money from my parking tickets is going - probably to feed those stinking homeless. The bus drivers are rude ass bitches. Seriously, this city does not have the intellectual feel that you'd expect from a place having such a well known institution. The cost of living and local taxes are high. Visit before you enroll.

2) This school is in dire need of money. Please please visit before you enroll at Boalt. Come see the facilities. Come see the building. And you'll see what I am saying. Decrepit.

1) Ranked 13th and going down. Boalt refuses to play the ranking game and it is showing. If you want to go to a top-25, come to Boalt because that is where its going to be when you graduate. If you want to go to a top-14, go elsewhere. Heck, UCLA might be a better bet. The other day I met a girl (dumb as a rock) whose LSAT score was 153 or some shit like that.

Boalt 1L

"10) Liberal professors"

Classically liberal, maybe.

"8) Going to classes with the homeless. Thats right folks, they are living inside the building now."

Dude, those aren't the homeless ... they're members of the ecology journal.

"7) ... there is no way to distinguish yourself from the total dumbasses who would have gotten Ds had there been a regular grading system."

If you can't manage to consistently land in the top 40%, I don't think you should be talking about other people being "dumbasses."

"6) Very very liberal student body. ... There are like 3 republicans at Boalt."

The student body is not that much more liberal, if at all, than you'd find at other law schools. Also see my response to #10.

"5) Good news - there are more girls than guys. Bad news - most are deformed in some way or the other. ..."

Well, I'll give you that. But to put it in proper context, I have to point out that the males at Boalt are also horrendously unattractive, probably worse than the females. I'd guess that you're no looker yourself, brother.

"4) Bad value. Instate tuition is now 21 grand. And the out-of-state is comparable to private ivies. Why attend a TTT state school when you can attend Penn for the same price."

I do wish that people who'd rather stay on the east coast, stay on the east coast. This is my biggest grievance with Boalt's "high GPA/low LSAT" admissions scheme -- not only do the rest of us have to deal with dumbasses, we have to deal with dumbasses from the east coast who bombed the LSAT and got into Boalt by writing about their lifelong fascination with indigenous cultures and how they backpacked through South America after graduating from Brown or some shit.

"3) Berkeley is a crap hole. ..."

Dude, this place rocks. If you're afraid to go outside, no wonder you're not meeting any girls.

Because you can't get into Penn with a 140 LSAT.
