Consumers won't spend because they are fearful they will lose their jobs, which depresses the economy more. We are now in a vicious cycle. Luckily the government has a printing press and can get roads and shit built that we are going to need in the future anyway to stimulate demand. With military spending, you blow the money, but you also anger alot of people around the world.
